In 2016, 360virtualtour.net produced a 360 virtual tour for the Swarovski store in Amsterdam and published it on Google Street View, opening one of the world's most recognisable retail interiors to anyone who finds it on Google Maps.

Scope of the shoot

A Swarovski store is a controlled environment of crystal, glass and precision lighting — beautiful to stand in, unforgiving to photograph. We captured the store as a connected series of panoramic scenes following the customer's route: the entrance, the display islands and the collections arranged across the floor.

Every surface in a store like this reflects everything else, which makes camera discipline everything: positions chosen to keep the space clean of distractions, exposures bracketed so the sparkle of the displays survives without burning out. The session was scheduled outside opening hours, so the store could be captured in its immaculate, ready state.
